Tech day 2010 had rolled around once
again, and in the way of the best laid plans of mice and men, it didn't
turn out how I had planned my involvement. My plan was to take
my car and do a few odd jobs that needed doing, then help out anyone
else who need it. A dodgy passenger door catch meant I couldn't take my
car, so I dived in with Chris Miller.
The other plan was to get Steve Payne's lads to take pictures and
notes to free me up to do other things, but a combination of illness and
exams meant neither of them made it, so back to taking pictures and
mental notes for me. I am hopeless with names, if I have yours
wrong or omitted, my apologies. We had been tasked with getting
the bacon butties in, so we stopped at the nearby cafe
Chris awaits the bacon butties. We got to Appleyard's and had
breakfast before getting stuck in.

Steve and Chris fuel up for the day ahead. A quick shufty
around the car park for a shot of the cars there revealed the unusual
sight of 2 brown Interceptors
A Couple of very nice FF's
A Healey and a GT
And a couple of 541-S
Right, sight seeing over it was down to work. Jeff was
replacing the prop shaft on his super smart MK2 on the lift. We later
tuned his carb to get rid of an idling problem he was having.

Another carb getting a tune up
Chris's car was wired by Hannibal Lector, so Chris spent the day
getting rid of horrible bits of wiring.
Dave Newby succumbed to the temptation of a shiny new Edelbock carb.

Colin and Diane had arrived in the Regalia pickup
And wasted no time in measuring up Steve for a set of JOC overalls.
By now the buffet lunch had arrived, so work stopped for a while
Refreshed a MK2 FF got a new set of plug leads and a carb tune.
Mark Manniat's MK3 got rear seatbelts
I had previously bought some engraved inner sill covers from Andy,
but they were a touch too long.
Luckily Darren who makes them was at hand to trim them down for me.
A 541 gets some rear brake TLC
We had a visit from a prospective new Jensen owner, who had turned up
in a Delorean
To prove we really are the friendly club, Steve Payne took his
girlfriend for a spin in his car, then gave his fuel injection a tune up
All in all a cracking day. Thanks to Andy and Kev at Appleyard's for
hosting the event, the technical help and loan of tools and lifts, and
all the tea! A big thanks to Steve Payne for organising the
day, and to everyone who came with realistic projects. And a
special thanks to the weather for being nice 2 weekends running. Must be
a first... |
