After completing his
distributor less ignition conversion, Peter has come up with an amazing
Weber carburettor conversion using 4 twin choke Weber's, giving each
cylinder it's own carburettor! It has involved making a custom built inlet manifold, and modified air filters so as to keep it low enough to fit under the bonnet, which is no mean feat given the IDF Weber's are a vertical carburettors Peter has also made covers for the battery and master cylinder to neaten the engine bay, and done extensive repairs to the bottom half of the car to cure the dreaded rust, along with fitting a front spoiler. Here is Peter's description of the work, and a link below to his Photo Bucket account for more pictures. Hi Kerry, I have now fitted 4x 48 Weber IDF to my Jensen Interceptor MKIII ! On the manifold each run had to be drilled to take the vacuum pipes which went to its own mini collector manifold and then on to provide vacuum the for the servo. My son made some small trumpets to fit inside the filters, as we didn't have enough space over the engine, and the filters were cut down from 3-1/2" to 1-1/2" so we did not have to cut the bonnet, saving a lot of work! The kick down was also modified with a new cable linkage to the central carburettor control, and with the Megajolt distributer-less ignition system in and well proven, we have finally taken off the distributor, making up a dummy distributer stub to retain the oil pump drive. Finally, as part of the effort to tidy up the engine bay, 2 modern fans have been fitted making the radiator area a lot cleaner, and 2 removable panels have been made up to clean up the servo area on the drivers side and create a battery cover on the passenger side! Here's Peter description of the 1st test drive "I tried it out yesterday as it was pretty much the first dry day since we finished it!. Cruising in top gear I stamped on the throttle to try the kick down..., It didn't work but the car took off like a rocket with a definite surge forward! ( a vast improvement ) , back in the garage, we tweaked the kick down and tried it again... Wow Weee! OH YES that works!!!!!!!!!!!!. As for fuel consumption... it's a 7.2 Litre, I have never worried about that, as I don't do many miles in it! If I did worry about it I would not have a 7.2 Litre Jensen, It would be a 600cc Smart car!!"
Peter has sent me this link to his Photobucket page for more details on the carbs and restoration of the car
