The wiring to the gearbox start inhibit and reversing lights switch is exposed to the elements under the car, and after all these years, more than a little corroded and fragile. As this will stop your car from starting, it will pay to do the modification Chris Miller has come up with.
Here's a solution for the park-neutral gearbox
connectors which routinely break. These are the small size Lucar
connectors (same size as the -Ve spade on a speaker). You'll need to
widen them out a little with a flat-blade screwdriver until they're just
a tight fit.
Doing this means they will end up slightly wider than original so you'll need the soft rubber boots.
