16th July 2022 Course

West Bromwich 1300-1600

We will be hosting a one day course (2½ hours with breaks) with Sensei Roger Vickerman 6th Dan Renshi Wado Ryu at the YMCA in West Bromwich. This will be an excellent event for anybody wishing to experience Wado Ryu Karate with one of the country's top practitioners, and learn what makes Wado Ryu so unique. Places are limited to 50 and are booking up fast, so please book now if you want to reserve a space. This course is open to everybody but under 16s must be graded 4th Kyu or above (Under 16s must also be accompanied by an adult).

Further info on travelling to and from the venue - Planes, trains & automobiles, oh and trams (if they are running)

Driving - The YMCA Carters Green (map) is 8 minutes from the M5 Junction 1 by car and at the top of West Bromwich town centre. It is very easy to get to if driving and has extensive on-site parking for visitors that is free, but you muist register your car at reception on the car park terminal.

Trains - It also has good rail links via Sandwell & Dudley train station but you will need to take a taxi or bus from the station into West Bromwich Town centre (1.9 miles), the No.4/4H/4M (To Walsall - cross over the road to the stop outside the Railway pub) all go to West Bromwich Bus Station where you can walk up to the YMCA (approx. 11 minutes) or switch to the 47/74/79 bus for a 2 minute ride up the high street. We would recommend walking and getting yourself moving for the course ahead!. There are direct links from Birmingham and Wolverhampton by tram (Dudley Street Guns Village stop) but as of today the Tram service is currently suspended. The tram stop is 2 minutes' walk to the YMCA Sadly no airport, but there are direct trains from Birmingham international to Sandwell & Dudley that takes 30-40 minutes and costs ~£6 return. See the information above about arriving at Sandwell & Dudley for getting to the venue.

West Bromwich is easy to get to by car from the North West (M6/M5), South west (M5), East/South East (M40 or M1/M6/M5), North (M1 or A38/M6/M5) or the West (M54). Again if coming by car use the car park to the side of the centre and let reception know whan you arrive so they can help you register your car for free parking

If anybody wants to stay overnight there are a few options in and around West Bromwich, but Contact us if you want recommendations

The YMCA has full changing facilities as well as an on-site cafe and vending machines for refreshments. Registration will commence in the hall at 1pm so please arrive at least 15 minutes before to be ready. The hall is booked for 3 hours which will allow for breaks between sessions

1200-1500 - The Codrington Budokan - Birmingham

We are excited to announce this joint course with World and European champion Sensei Eugene Codrington 8th Dan and Sensei Roger Vickerman 6th Dan Renshi

Hosted at the famous Codrington Budokan dojo in Birmingham's City Centre, this will be a 3 hours course (including breaks) where you will spend time with both of these amazing instructors looking at what makes their Karate so special. The Budokan has 2 dedicated dojo spaces, so we can keep the class sizes to a number that means everybody will get the most from their time. Spaces are limited for this course to 50 participates and is booking up fast, so please book now if you want to guarantee a space. Payment is online before the course, but is fully refundable if you can't make the course for any reason. The cost per person will be £20

Further info on travelling to the Codrington Budokan.

The Codrington Budokan (Map) is 5-7 minutes’ walk from New Street Station in the city centre of Birmingham, or 7-10 minutes’ walk from Five Ways Station. Parking is available outside the centre and nearby and is free on a Sunday to park. Please make sure you do check any signage if you are parking. Please be aware if you are planning to drive, Birmingham City Centre now has a clean air charge, so check here to see if you will need to pay to drive into the centre.

The centre has seperate Male and Female changing rooms with secure lockers and showers. Light refreshments will be available from reception. The centre will be open from 1100am on the day, so feel free to arrive with plenty of time to get ready for the course.

If you are planning on staying in Birmingham there are lots of options for accommodation and dining. The nearest places to stay are The Penta Birmingham and the Ibis. Please note we are not recommending these places and are not affiliated in any way, they are simply the closest to the venue.
